SWPS University, Poland
SWPS University is a leading social sciences university in Poland, with a well-established interdisciplinary focus on children’s rights, child protection, and family studies. Relevant activities in this field are carried out primarily within the Institute of Law and in close cooperation with experts in psychology and social sciences. Our work combines research, teaching, and practice. We deliver specialised courses in family law, child welfare law, juvenile proceedings, and human rights in practice, as well as graduate seminars devoted to child protection, domestic violence, psychological assessment of minors, and interdisciplinary cooperation in cases involving children and families. Our research addresses violence against children, the legal and psychological dimensions of parental authority, children’s participation in judicial and administrative proceedings, and the practical implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). We also conduct applied research projects focused on improving procedural safeguards for children and strengthening evidence-based standards in family and juvenile justice.
Academics at SWPS actively cooperate with courts, child protection services, Ombudsperson institutions, and non-governmental organisations. Through expert opinions, training programmes, and participation in legislative consultations, we contribute to policy development and the advancement of child-centred and multidisciplinary approaches in Poland and across Europe.
